The huge amount of pressure on young girls to let their boyfriends get away with everything and not to stand up for themselves, lest they stop being a ‘chill girlfriend’ and instead become a horrible, controlling harpy is such bullshit.
Stop teaching young girls that demanding to be treated with respect and courtesy makes them shrill, over-emotional, or unworthy of listening to.
I really love women. I do. And one thing I love is fashion and clothing. Now that its warming up slightly and the rain is temporarily holding off, everyone isn’t so hidden under umbrellas and giant coats, and I’ve noticed all the awesome things girls on campus do that just look so nice. I love this current fashion of huge flannels, sweaters, and hoodies. I love it. I think it is the cutest thing. I love hair in loose messy buns that look on the verge of falling apart but somehow stay together, and the natural fade of darker roots to sun bleached tips in long hair. I fucking love long hair. I love earrings that poke through the hair, especially rings and cuffs around the cartilage, and subtle back tattoos poking through sweaters and shirts, canvas sneakers, hats of every kind, scarves and boots, those poofy vests, I have a soft spot for nose studs and rings, and I like necklaces and dangly earrings. I just love it. I love women’s clothing, although I could never pull it off. I stick to my men’s t-shirts and snapbacks and hope some girl could find me attractive…
I just kind of wanted to send out an overall winter fashion appreciation to women. Girls rock it. I’m sure I’ll say the same thing in summer but still…I’m really digging the current trends.
We live in a world where:
- Chris Brown got away with the most minimal sentence after horrifically beating Rihanna.
- Roman Polanski raped a 13 year old girl but still won an oscar to a standing ovation.
- R Kelly raped several under-age girls but was acquitted on all charges.
- Woody Allen had an affair with his 17 year old daughter only to end up getting away with it and marrying her shortly after.
- John Lennon is one of the most worshipped artists to have ever drawn breath but has admitted to battering the shit out of women.
And in that world it’s no surprise that Kesha’s freedom was denied. That her psychological and sexual safety were reduced to nothing. That she’s been forced to produce six more albums with her abuser. That she’s been forced to remain the creative property of the man who drugged and raped her. Because in this world our courts and culture still have a hard enough time believing women’s accusations of sexual assault even in the most clear-cut of circumstances. And when a woman as powerful and high status as Kesha can’t win, the rest of us stand even less of a chance.
